The soft-as-clouds panels on this bag began life as a cotton scarf hand-woven on a wooden loom in Java. The men of the village hand down their intricate openwork patterns father to son. This particular pattern features lacy stripes alternating with bands of closed weave. Mark has dyed the fabric in billows of fuchsia and magenta. Mark also dyed the fabric flanking the zipper in swirls of fuchsia and midnight blue.
